About me

« back Born on July 19, 1987, I was raised in Neu-Isenburg, a small town just south of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. I finished school in June 2007. After nine months of compulsory civilian service, I started studying physics in April 2008, mostly at TU Darmstadt, Germany with two terms abroad at University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada. I did my Ph.D. in the field of theoretical nuclear astrophysics at TU Darmstadt, more precisely working on the interaction of neutrinos with supernova matter. Afterwards, I moved to Munich, where I am currently a Software Consultant for TNG Technology Consulting GmbH.

This website is a result of three hobbies of mine, namely travelling, photography and web design. Other hobbies include games evenings and volleyball.

Photography

Thanks to a father interested in photography, I started taking pictures early on. I really picked up photography as a hobby when I went to Australia in 2003 and bought my own camera in 2004, a Konica Minolta Z3. In 2009, it was replaced by a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS. I usually prefer my SLR, though. The Konica Minolta Dimage 7 I got in 2010 when my father bought a new camera for himself has been superseded by a Sony Alpha 57. Almost all pictures seen on this website have been taken with either one of these cameras.

The programs I use for postprocessing have changed multiple times in these more than 10 years. Currently, my favorite tool is Corel AfterShot Pro, which has a Linux version - unlike Adobe Lightroom. If you are looking for an open-source alternative for RAW image editing, I recommend Darktable. I stitch my panoramas using Hugin.

Web design and web development

My interest in web design and web development goes back even further than my photography experiments. My first steps looked as bad as most turn-of-the-century websites created by teens and fortunately are not online anymore. The first big project was the website for the student newspaper at my school. Since than, I have worked on numerous homepages, in most cases complimentary. At the moment, I am (partly) in charge of the websites of an association for young scientists called Deutsches Jungforschernetzwerk - juFORUM e.V. and the Neu-Isenburg local group of NABU (a conservation NGO). I am involved with these institutions beyond working on their homepage. In addition, I do projects for friends and run some projects on my vServer.

This website started in 2013/2014 as a chance to work on my very own project, to challenge and expand my skills. This homepage does not use any frameworks, I have written almost all code myself (except for the panorama viewer, OpenSeadragon). Most parts work without Javascript, which is only used for the slideshow, panoramas, and for a small fix on the gallery pages. In return, it relies heavily on CSS3, hence a modern browser is needed to enjoy this webpage. It should however be usable with older browsers.
